Hey, Chris!

She first tried yoga due to a slip disc – and has been loving it since. “The mat has brought me a sense of peace like no other.” Her lab instructor, Benny, encouraged her to consider the Yoga Teacher Training programme – as a way to deepen her practice.

She had second thoughts about it but Benny made her believe that she could do it. Chris’ favourite part of YTT was the friendships forged and learning pranayamas – “It’s amazing how good breathing intentionally felt!”

Hey, Genevieve!

Yoga was a form of stress relief for Genevieve – who was looking for a way to reduce stress and a good friend of hers suggested that yoga could help. She fell in love with Yoga – and had often considered going for YTT many times in the past to deepen her knowledge of Yoga and her yoga practice – but the timing was never right.

“Having had the experience of enriching my yoga practice with Lab Studios, in particular with Maya, Betty and Benny, I was inspired to take the plunge.” She enjoyed learning about the whole philosophy underpinning yoga, truly believing that Yoga is more than the poses and physical aspects.

How does this programme help you get job-ready to be an instructor? The programme exposes me to a multitude of challenges which teaching entails. Dealing with and overcoming each challenge has prepared me for the next stage.

What would be one thing you’ll want to tell a future student who’s looking to sign up? Be prepared to work hard, be 110% committed but most of all come with an open heart and open mind. The rewards will far surpass your expectations. My motto is “if you never try, you will never know”.

Hey, Jing Lee!

Her journey started at Barre Lab – she never looked at exploring Yoga until Jasmine introduced her to her amazing Hot YoBarre class. She started Hot Yoga, and the rest, as we say, is history.

She was inspired by Lab instructor, Xin Hui to join YTT – “I thought she was joking when she suggested that I join YTT! I took the YTT info session with zero expectation but left the session thinking – The practice was tough but I loved it, the energy in the practice was so competitive yet fulfilling, the sharing by the instructors were so encouraging and inspiring, I’ve been doing up to 5 classes a week at the time. So why not? I found more reasons I should than not so I just trusted my gut and went for it.”

Her favourite part of the programme was the strength she built from the practices and workshops, the 108 Sun Salutations, the amazing friendships and the inspiring instructors Maya and Betty.

Hey, Jamie!

His journey began with a Groupon voucher to a Bikram Yoga Class – the energy was immense! After exploring it through a class in the gym, he joined Lab as his practise became more consistent – it often complimented his active lifestyle.

He decided to try out the training programme as it seemed natural to do so after practising at Lab for a while. “I was literally, on the verge of signing up elsewhere, until Betty timely, reached out about the infosharing session!”

Jamie felt like exploring the programme not necessarily to teach, but just to learn more & was glad it was with Lab in the end.

His favourite part of it? “The people (including the amazing teachers, of course!) as they as they all strive to push you on & become a better version of yourself in & out of practise.”

How does this programme help you get job-ready to be an instructor?

The progressive programme has carefully curated classes that empowers you with the knowledge & confidence, to help you feel more aware & comfortable with yourself. I’m not a fan of large presentations at work but this has definitely helped. I had no intention of becoming an instructor, but it has certainly opened my mind to it.

What would be one thing you’ll want to tell a future student who’s looking to sign up?

“It’s not about splits & handstands!” I remember Benny saying this in the infosharing session & it resonated with me – I think it’s one of the reasons why I never did the YTT earlier. I have a big ego, so I always thought yoga was about asanas but there is so much more to it than that. Leave your ego behind & bring only yourself to practice, be present & be positive.
