Jasmine is the co-founder and creator of Barre Lab. Jasmine started her journey as a yoga practitioner and walked into her first barre class a little too confident. She fell in love with the challenge that the barre move presented and later discovered how complementary barre is to her regular yoga practice. Soon she found herself in the barre room almost daily and being addicted to the barre burn.

She took her first Total Barre training in 2017 and then a BarreAmped training in 2018. She was hungry for more knowledge and went on to train with Barrebody in 2019. Later in 2020, she completed her pre and post natal certification with Barre Intensity and Barrebody. Jasmine is also a certified yoga and Pilates instructor.

Jasmine is not only big on alignment, she is a self-professed anatomy nerd! She believes every movement begins with intention and should be done effectively by understanding how the body moves. As she always says “it burns better when you know why and where you are working”.

With years of experience running one of the most relevant boutique fitness brands in Singapore. Jasmine is big on community and brand building. She is go-to person for all things barre and business!

Lead Trainer of Barre Lab

Leandra is the Lead Trainer and Teacher Mentor in Barre Lab. Many of the earlier Barre fitness classes in Singapore were ballet and dance-focused, leaving Leandra – someone who had no formal dance background but thoroughly enjoys groovy tunes and movement – intimidated and almost reluctant to try a class. Fortunately, she did. One of her first Barre teachers was a Yoga and Pilates instructor, and the experience opened her eyes to the endless possibilities that Barre fitness could provide to the larger community.

In 2017, Leandra completed her first Total Barre training. She continued to explore various styles of Barre and completed more certifications with Barre Intensity and Barre Eclipse between 2019 to 2022. As Leandra taught more public classes with Barre Lab, she met more and more students who appreciated and thrived in her accessible and empowering classes. She went on to complete courses in trauma-sensitive language, inclusive language techniques and functional anatomy – all with the aim of creating effective and functional workouts that were truly accessible for all.

Leandra wants to rebel against the norms of the fitness industry – she does not teach dogmatic one-size-fits-all alignment approaches, she vehemently protests diet culture, and she never uses body-shaming language. She is glad to have found a home in Barre Lab and will continue to grow the Barre community with love.

Meet Joelle, a dedicated Teacher Mentor, Barre, and Pilates Reformer instructor at Lab Studio. Before joining our team, Joelle's fitness journey included coaching at F45 and BFT, along with offering personalized strength training sessions on the side.

Joelle's introduction to Barre was quite unique. Despite never having attended a Barre class before, her classical Ballet background and strength training expertise led her to be invited to teach at a friend's Barre studio. Intrigued by this opportunity, Joelle pursued Barre Teacher Training with Miriam from Barre Body in 2017. During her training, she found inspiration in Miriam's teachings, and she was eager to share with her students the incredible results that could be achieved through workouts involving just 1kg dumbbells and bodyweight exercises.

Driven by her passion for fitness and holistic well-being, Joelle continued her education journey. She completed a 200hr Yoga Teacher Training course, as well as Mat Pilates and Pilates Reformer Training courses. Additionally, she pursued a course in vegan and vegetarian nutrition out of sheer curiosity and a genuine desire to enhance the overall class experience for her students.

When the circuit breaker period disrupted traditional fitness routines, Joelle recognized the need for her students to break a sweat from the comfort of their own mats at home. This led her to create Barre HIIT and offer virtual classes. Over time, these virtual sessions evolved into Barre Cardio, which is now exclusively available in our Joo Chiat studio.

Joelle's vision extends beyond her own practice; she eagerly anticipates inspiring more students within our Lab team to become future teachers themselves. Join Joelle and our team to embark on your fitness journey and discover the joy of teaching and inspiring others.

Hear from our graduates.

For someone who signed up for BLTT thinking “let’s just try”, I came out of it feeling pretty empowered!

Empowered with not only the knowledge but also confidence. The amazing team of trainers are more than willing to answer any questions you have. The course structure sets you up for success. It is extremely comprehensive and easily understandable for someone like me who has never done anatomy before.

Through the training, I also gained new like-minded friends! Friends who enjoy barre as much as me. I also found that I have a very different “teacher voice” that comes out when I practice teach 🤭 Jokes aside, I gained a deeper appreciation into what kind of effort goes into not only planning a well rounded full body workout, but also how to cue students to move, how to be aware and ensure students are aligned.

This also ultimately enables students who come to class to leave satisfied. I want to be able to teach such classes as well🤞🏻I would recommend this training to anyone who enjoys barre, or wants to know why certain exercises burn, or wants to teach, or just make friends with people who like barre just as much as you do. Just try!

Charmayne Tay Jan 2024

It was a comprehensive, fun and engaging course for new and aspiring barre teachers-to-be.

I came out feeling very fulfilled and assured that there will still be support after course completion. Attendees not looking to teach will also benefit from having increased self-awareness through this course when they go for future classes.

Thank you Jasmine, Leandra and Joelle for your patience, guidance and encouragement!

Casia Lai Jan 2024

As someone who practiced barre for a couple years before joining BLTT, I entered the training with a pretty broad understanding of barre, albeit quite superficially.

I loved how the training delved so deeply into every aspect of barre and really allowed me to acquire so much knowledge over such a short period of time, as well as introducing me to new aspects of a solid barre class, like musicality, effective cueing techniques etc. that I was not aware of previously.

The structure of the course also allowed for a few days of assimilating and practicing whatever was taught to really cement my knowledge before the next training weekend, which I found really effective for my learning.

I really appreciated all the constant feedback given as the training progressed because it was very helpful in correcting any misconceptions I had about barre / teaching barre on the spot and I was able to continue my learning more efficiently with new perspectives. Overall, this course was excellent in helping me deepen my passion for barre, and also understanding why I had this passion at all in the first place. I really, really appreciate the time and energy taken to curate and refine the training because the expertise and good vibes present throughout the 6 days were really incredible.

Thank you Leandra, Jo & Jasmine!

Larissa Ang Jan 2024

No regrets at all stepping out of my comfort zone to join the Barre Lab Teacher Training!

Leandra, Joelle and Jasmine delivered the course contents exceedingly well and shared plenty of their own experiences, knowledge and practices with us. Not to forget how friendly and encouraging everyone was!

Highly recommend BLTT to anyone who is looking to expand their barre practice and / or become a barre instructor 🙂

Jermaine Chu Jan 2024

The training program was very well executed and thought out. It was comprehensive and a well rounded programme and the trainers offered personal insights from their cumulative years of experience. The programme offered trainees a deeper insight into barre and provided a great beginner framework on steps to becoming a teacher.

I enjoyed myself very much and learnt so much and also met many barre enthusiasts. I would highly recommend anyone who is interested to take the leap and sign up!

Michele Koe Jan 2024

What I liked about the training was the opportunity to get acquainted with an awesome group of like-minded barre buddies on this journey. I also got the privilege to be taught and supported by a team of highly qualified, dedicated and inspiring trainers. Lastly, the emphasis on empowering language really spoke to me and the kind of teacher I aspire to be in future.

The training provides a well-rounded foundation in teaching Barre. I have definitely gained more self confidence and awareness of my strengths and areas of improvement in this journey. I have also learned that nothing is impossible if you truly put in your heart and hard work and learn to trust the process!

I recommend this programme to anyone who enjoys barre and has a keen interest to share their love of barre with others!

Joyce Sim Jan 2024

The Barre Lab Teacher Training introduced me to the science of barre and the art of teaching which I would not have known had I not attended the training. Topics such as muscle anatomy and cueing were taught extensively which proves why classes in Lab are so effective and well-designed. For those joining the program alone, it is a great opportunity to make new friends and form new bonds which many of us did!

Ginny Neo July 2023

The Barre Lab Academy organising team are clearly dedicated to educating the trainees, and it shows in the lessons and sharing during the training. All the trainers are also actively teaching barre, so it creates a more realistic programme for the trainees since most would have attended the trainers' classes before. I feel the mix of theory & practical was really well-balanced for someone without any prior knowledge on exercise science or anatomy. I love the inclusion of the following: Affirming language when teaching and Lab Studios' barre signature class sequencing because it creates an experience that you can't get in an online barre certification programme. I also loved that the training was held in Bali, it provided additional focus for me to ground myself towards learning and gaining the most out of the training! I really enjoyed myself and made so many new friends. Thank you for an awesome training!

Anisah ARZ July 2023

As a yoga practitioner, I've never liked Barre (as I deemed it to be boring) but Lab Studios completely changed my impression of it as a sustainable long term workout and compelled me to consider Barre as a channel to share my passion in teaching. Having completed the recent Barre Lab Teacher Training programme, this notion has been securely reinforced and I now feel that indeed this is a perfect pairing to my yoga practice. The programme is a solid one with a foolproof method that arms graduates with the tools and knowledge to overcome the nerves and insecurities to realise the dream (if so desired); and where information and learnings were handed out in an easy to understand manner with practical hands-on experiences to test it out – where I had several light bulb moments switch on for me, to the point of it changing/benefitting my yoga habits. To top things off, our trainers Jasmine, Leandra and Joelle are the best in their willingness to share, constant encouragement, sincerity and passion in individually helping everyone... and with amazing photos by the talented Angelica!

Valerie Teo July 2023

I’ve always had an interest and loved barre because (of the) small and controlled movements that could really make me feel the burn! Doing barre as my main form of exercise has made me feel really happy, and I’m so glad that I decided to attend this teacher training! After the training, I continued to attend barre classes and now it all just makes a lot more sense to me – the variations, the seamless flow around the barre and even the music! I truly had an amazing time under the trainers’ guidance and help. 10/10 would recommend.

Who will you recommend this training to? - Women/men who want to keep their bodies moving, but maybe you don’t like the intensity of a gym with very heavy weights but you want something that keeps you on your toes (literally) and keeps you constantly moving!

Kyra Grant Training period: May 2022

What did you like most of the training? - I loved that through the training, I understood and loved my body more. I also loved that it helped to improve my fitness level in just 6 days without overstraining my body. Classes were also very interactive and fun being able to learn from Leandra and Jasmine.

What did you gain out of the training? - I am now a barre instructor! That's the biggest gain for me. I fulfilled one of my dream jobs! Other than that, i have also gained knowledge on the anatomy of the body and barre techniques that are so useful for class sequencing.

Who will you recommend this training to? - I will recommend this training for people who want to be a barre instructor but don't know where to even start or people that love barre and want to understand the intricate planning that goes behind each carefully thought class.

Shauna Mun Training period: May 2022

What did you like most of the training? - My favourite part of the programme was bonding and learning with the other students in the programme - many of them were regulars at Barre Lab but they never got to know each other better until they attended the training programme together.

What did you gain out of the training? - This is a very systematic programme that helps students understand how the human body functions, what exercises will work which muscles and it also covers how to give instructions, alignment cues and motivate the students.

Who will you recommend this training to? - Anyone who wants to gain a deeper understanding of the workout and also to gain an appreciation of the alignment and instruction cues given by barre instructors.

Just try!

Charmayne Tan Training Period: Jan 2024

It was a comprehensive, fun and engaging course for new and aspiring barre teachers-to-be.

I came out feeling very fulfilled and assured that there will still be support after course completion. Attendees not looking to teach will also benefit from having increased self-awareness through this course when they go for future classes.

Thank you Jasmine, Leandra and Joelle for your patience, guidance and encouragement!

Casia Lai Training Period: Jan 2024

Larissa Ang Training Period: Jan 2024

No regrets at all stepping out of my comfort zone to join the Barre Lab Teacher Training!

Leandra, Joelle and Jasmine delivered the course contents exceedingly well and shared plenty of their own experiences, knowledge and practices with us. Not to forget how friendly and encouraging everyone was!

Highly recommend BLTT to anyone who is looking to expand their barre practice and / or become a barre instructor 🙂

Jermaine Chu Training Period: Jan 2024

The training program was very well executed and thought out. It was comprehensive and a well rounded programme and the trainers offered personal insights from their cumulative years of experience. The programme offered trainees a deeper insight into barre and provided a great beginner framework on steps to becoming a teacher.

I enjoyed myself very much and learnt so much and also met many barre enthusiasts. I would highly recommend anyone who is interested to take the leap and sign up!

Michele Koe Training Period: Jan 2024

Joyce Sim Training Period: Jan 2024

The Barre Lab Teacher Training introduced me to the science of barre and the art of teaching which I would not have known had I not attended the training. Topics such as muscle anatomy and cueing were taught extensively which proves why classes in Lab are so effective and well-designed. For those joining the program alone, it is a great opportunity to make new friends and form new bonds which many of us did!

Ginny Neo Training Period: July 2023

“The Barre Lab Academy organising team are clearly dedicated to educating the trainees, and it shows in the lessons and sharing during the training. Thank you for an awesome training!”

Anisah ARZ Training Period: July 2023

To top things off, our trainers Jasmine, Leandra and Joelle are the best in their willingness to share, constant encouragement, sincerity and passion in individually helping everyone... and with amazing photos by the talented Angelica!”

Valerie Teo Training Period: July 2023

I’ve always had an interest and loved barre because (of the) small and controlled movements that could really make me feel the burn! Doing barre as my main form of exercise has made me feel really happy, and I’m so glad that I decided to attend this teacher training! After the training, I continued to attend barre classes and now it all just makes a lot more sense to me – the variations, the seamless flow around the barre and even the music! I truly had an amazing time under the trainers’ guidance and help. 10/10 would recommend.

Chan Yixin Training Period: July 2023

What did you like most about the training? - Great instructors who are approachable and generous in sharing their knowledge 😍😍 Well-structured course! The material covered sufficient details such that we understood the fundamentals of barre and planning/ teaching an effective workout yet wasn't too overwhelming. The course is very manageable in terms of time commitment as well!

What did you gain out of the training? - A deeper appreciation for barre and the hard work that goes into planning and teaching a class! I definitely also got stronger and more confident through the practice sessions.

Who will you recommend this training to? - Anyone who wants to take their practice to another level! If you've ever even wondered what it'd be like leading a class, the training is for you 😊

Chia Pui San Training period: January 2022

What did you like most of the training? - My favourite part of the programme was the in-depth discussion of anatomy and linking it to barre classes. Plus, I also loved the camaraderie and friendships formed through Barre Lab Academy! I work as a Business Insight Analyst during the day, and decided to teach because I enjoyed the interactions she gets to have with the students. I feel a strong sense of achievement and fulfillment after each class, especially since I get to see them progress as they get stronger after each class!

What did you gain out of the training? - The practice teach sessions equipped me with the additional hands-on practice needed for me to find my own style, as well as continually improve on my ability to provide the ideal cues. The class observations were also tremendously helpful as they provided an opportunity to learn from the other instructors.

Who will you recommend this training to? - Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will! If you are passionate about barre and have thoughts about teaching barre, you should most definitely sign up! Upon completion of the programme, try to start teaching as soon as possible 😊 This way, you can ensure that you can apply all the knowledge you have gained immediately!

Chermain Ang Training Period: Jan 2022

What did you gain out of the training? - I learnt how to communicate effectively and concisely so that the students can get the cues quickly and have a good workout.

Who will you recommend this training to? - Anyone who had ever considered getting a barre instructor certification! If you never try, you never know!

Belinda Cheong Training Period: Jan 2022

What did you like most of the training? - The structure of the training is perfectly designed and organised. The training plan enabled us to learn and appreciate scientific theories through fun and practical cases and hands-on workshops. And I'm truly grateful for the immense amount of effort, time and energy that the trainers have put in to conduct an intensive 6-day training. I had so much fun!

What did you gain out of the training? - The training has taught me the importance of body awareness and alignments - having a good posture is key! Other than learning how to sequence a fun and effective class, the workshop even details the intricacies of reading the room, creating a safe and comfortable environment during the class. Another huge gain was getting to know the rest of the trainees better, gaining friendships and community that's forged through sweat, tears and burn~

Who will you recommend this training to? - Anyone who loves Barre, has the interest to teach, or simply to find out more about the art and science behind a Barre class! You DO NOT have to be flexible - can't emphasise this enough! This training programme essentially covers all areas - you will be equipped with everything you want to know, need to know and things you never thought that you would know. No regrets!

Tan Yan Qing Training Period: Jan 2023

What did you like most of the training? - I love that BLTT has opened my eyes to the importance of language and how my words matter, not only as a barre teacher, but also as a mom, wife and daughter. It’s also been a joy forging new friendships with many wonderful people from all walks of life. Learning the body’s anatomy from Jasmine has never been more fun (considering that I once took an anatomy module in uni and snoozed in class)! My day job involves a lot of compliance and strategy, and BLTT has offered me an outlet to explore my creative side during the practice teach sessions.

What did you gain out of the training? - I’m walking out of BLTT as a more empowered person. I’ve learnt how to coherently and effectively cue in a barre class, and how to identify which type of exercise targets the specific muscle group.Additionally, I’ve been dealing with a weakened post-partum core, which has significantly improved thanks to BLTT!

Who will you recommend this training to? - Anyone who’s aspiring to be a barre teacher, or simply wanting to learn how to effectively deepen their barre workouts. Leandra and Jasmine have created a very comfortable and safe space for all students to be at ease with themselves while becoming confident instructors.

Rebecca Aw Training Period: Jan 2023

What did you like most of the training? - I especially appreciated learning about our body anatomy (trust me, it’s not boring at all) and seeing how each workout is intentionally chosen to target different muscle groups to ensure that students get an effective workout in each class. And it’s not just the choice of exercise but the level of detail each instructor puts into ensuring the workouts are executed in a seamless flow so that each student leaves class feeling like they just had an amazing burn (e.g. linking each exercise with a smooth transition, effective usage and placement of props and choice of words used to motivate and empower the students).

What did you gain out of the training? - Apart from learning the fundamentals of barre and the science behind each class, my greatest gain is getting to know and being immersed in an entire community of strong, fun-loving and talented individuals. Already looking forward to my next class with everybarre-dy 🙂

Who will you recommend this training to? - This training would be suitable for someone who is passionate about barre and wants to either (1) deepen his/her knowledge and techniques of barre and why it’s such a functional workout or (2) someone who is considering to teach barre as a full-time career or a side hustle!

Hayley Pang Training Period: Jan 2023

What did you like most of the training? - Feeling empowered and loved. As cliche as it sounds, knowledge is empowerment!! Over 6 days, we’ve learnt about human anatomy, workouts to effectively target specific muscle groups, and teaching techniques to lead a class. All these knowledge has empowered us to share our understanding of bodies with others. We also celebrate how all our bodies are different, but no less worthy of love!

What did you gain out of the training? - Confidence. A healthy appreciation for how my body supports my daily life, and knowing how to effectively strengthen my body makes me feel confident that I can take care of myself well, and by extension, being able to guide others into taking care of themselves as well.

Who will you recommend this training to? - Truly, anyone and everyone. Be it taking the first step towards becoming a barre instructor, or simply to deepen your understanding on barre workouts. In any case, it’s definitely a step out of your comfort zone, and I believe that’s where growth takes place.
