Why Train Mat Pilates with Lab Studios in Singapore?
Lab Studios is home to some of Singapore’s most sought-after movement experiences, trusted by thousands of students across multiple modalities. Over the years, we saw the changing needs of our clients – people craved a good sweat and challenge, but wanted to keep their training accessible and low-impact. Meet Your Trainers
Jasmine is the co-founder and creator of Barre Lab. Jasmine started her journey as a yoga practitioner and walked into her first barre class a little too confident. She fell in love with the challenge that the barre move presented, and later discovered how complementary barre is to her regular yoga practice. Soon she found herself in the barre room almost daily and being addicted to the barre burn.
She took her first Total Barre training in 2017 and then a BarreAmped training in 2018. She was hungry for more knowledge and went on to train with Barrebody in 2019. Later in 2020, she completed her pre and post natal certification with Barre Intensity and Barrebody. Jasmine is also a certified yoga and Pilates instructor.
Jasmine is not only big on alignment, she is a self-professed anatomy nerd! She believes every movement begins with intention and should be done effectively by understanding how the body moves. As she always says “it burns better when you know why and where you are working”.
With years of experience running one of the most relevant boutique fitness brands in Singapore. Jasmine is big on community and brand building. She is the go-to person for all things barre and business!
Leandra is the Lead Trainer and Teacher Mentor in Barre Lab. Many of the earlier Barre fitness classes in Singapore were ballet and dance-focused, leaving Leandra – someone who had no formal dance background but thoroughly enjoys groovy tunes and movement – intimidated and almost reluctant to try a class. Fortunately, she did. One of her first Barre teachers was a Yoga and Pilates instructor, and the experience opened her eyes to the endless possibilities that Barre training could provide to the larger community.
In 2017, Leandra completed her first Total Barre training. She continued to explore various styles of Barre and completed more certifications with Barre Intensity and Barre Eclipse between 2019 and 2022. As Leandra taught more public classes with Barre Lab, she met more and more students who appreciated and thrived in her accessible and empowering classes. She went on to complete courses in trauma-sensitive language, inclusive language techniques and functional anatomy – all with the aim of creating effective and functional workouts that were truly accessible for all.
Leandra wants to rebel against the norms of the fitness industry – she does not teach dogmatic one-size-fits-all alignment approaches, she vehemently protests diet culture, and she never uses body-shaming language. She is glad to have found a home in Barre Lab and will continue to grow the Barre community with love.
Meet Joelle, a dedicated Teacher Mentor, Barre, and Pilates Reformer instructor at Lab Studio. Before joining our team, Joelle’s fitness journey included coaching at F45 and BFT, along with offering personalized strength training sessions on the side.
Joelle’s introduction to Barre was quite unique. Despite never having attended a Barre class before, her classical Ballet background and strength training expertise led her to be invited to teach at a friend’s Barre studio. Intrigued by this opportunity, Joelle pursued Barre Teacher Training with Miriam from Barre Body in 2017. During her training, she found inspiration in Miriam’s teachings, and she was eager to share with her students the incredible results that could be achieved through workouts involving just 1kg dumbbells and bodyweight exercises.
Driven by her passion for fitness and holistic well-being, Joelle continued her education journey. She completed a 200hr Yoga Teacher Training course, as well as Mat Pilates and Pilates Reformer Training courses. Additionally, she pursued a course in vegan and vegetarian nutrition out of sheer curiosity and a genuine desire to enhance the overall class experience for her students.
When the circuit breaker period disrupted traditional fitness routines, Joelle recognized the need for her students to break a sweat from the comfort of their own mats at home. This led her to create Barre HIIT and offer virtual classes. Over time, these virtual sessions evolved into Barre Cardio, which is now exclusively available in our Joo Chiat studio.
Joelle’s vision extends beyond her own practice; she eagerly anticipates inspiring more students within our Lab team to become future teachers themselves. Join Joelle and our team to embark on your fitness journey and discover the joy of teaching and inspiring others.

Hear from our past graduates
It was a comprehensive, fun and engaging course for new and aspiring barre teachers-to-be.
I came out feeling very fulfilled and assured that there will still be support after course completion. Attendees not looking to teach will also benefit from having increased self-awareness through this course when they go for future classes.
Thank you Jasmine, Leandra and Joelle for your patience, guidance and encouragement!
As someone who practiced barre for a couple years before joining BLTT, I entered the training with a pretty broad understanding of barre, albeit quite superficially.
I loved how the training delved so deeply into every aspect of barre and really allowed me to acquire so much knowledge over such a short period of time, as well as introducing me to new aspects of a solid barre class, like musicality, effective cueing techniques etc. that I was not aware of previously.
The structure of the course also allowed for a few days of assimilating and practicing whatever was taught to really cement my knowledge before the next training weekend, which I found really effective for my learning.
I really appreciated all the constant feedback given as the training progressed because it was very helpful in correcting any misconceptions I had about barre / teaching barre on the spot and I was able to continue my learning more efficiently with new perspectives. Overall, this course was excellent in helping me deepen my passion for barre, and also understanding why I had this passion at all in the first place. I really, really appreciate the time and energy taken to curate and refine the training because the expertise and good vibes present throughout the 6 days were really incredible.
Thank you Leandra, Jo & Jasmine!
No regrets at all stepping out of my comfort zone to join the Barre Lab Teacher Training!
Leandra, Joelle and Jasmine delivered the course contents exceedingly well and shared plenty of their own experiences, knowledge and practices with us. Not to forget how friendly and encouraging everyone was!
Highly recommend BLTT to anyone who is looking to expand their barre practice and / or become a barre instructor 🙂
The training program was very well executed and thought out. It was comprehensive and a well rounded programme and the trainers offered personal insights from their cumulative years of experience. The programme offered trainees a deeper insight into barre and provided a great beginner framework on steps to becoming a teacher.
I enjoyed myself very much and learnt so much and also met many barre enthusiasts. I would highly recommend anyone who is interested to take the leap and sign up!
The training provides a well-rounded foundation in teaching Barre. I have definitely gained more self confidence and awareness of my strengths and areas of improvement in this journey. I have also learned that nothing is impossible if you truly put in your heart and hard work and learn to trust the process!
I recommend this programme to anyone who enjoys barre and has a keen interest to share their love of barre with others!
Syllabus has a good structure and delivered well. Theory was enhanced with practical exercises from muscles to tonality.
Good class size - big enough to have variety of perspective yet small enough to recognise and remember everyone by name.
Thank you both Leandra and Joelle for making the session interactive and interesting!!
Also, the online module is really comprehensive and helpful to prep us before the inter person sessions.
And the planning of the entire program was very well thought out. Love the group practices to prepare us and also the final showcase to have a chance to see everyone’s hardwork and learn from one another.
Trainers are also extremely knowledgeable and friendly which truly shows labs culture
the pace was comfortable. and i like it that it’s totally a real “teaching” programme - how to be effective in cues, counting, music selection etc.
Lots of hand on practices such as buddy activities and showcase. I especially appreciate the clear instruction on effective cueing.
What did you gain out of the training? - Apart from learning the fundamentals of barre and the science behind each class, my greatest gain is getting to know and being immersed in an entire community of strong, fun-loving and talented individuals. Already looking forward to my next class with everybarre-dy 🙂
Who will you recommend this training to? - This training would be suitable for someone who is passionate about barre and wants to either (1) deepen his/her knowledge and techniques of barre and why it’s such a functional workout or (2) someone who is considering to teach barre as a full-time career or a side hustle!
What did you gain out of the training? - Confidence. A healthy appreciation for how my body supports my daily life, and knowing how to effectively strengthen my body makes me feel confident that I can take care of myself well, and by extension, being able to guide others into taking care of themselves as well.
Who will you recommend this training to? - Truly, anyone and everyone. Be it taking the first step towards becoming a barre instructor, or simply to deepen your understanding on barre workouts. In any case, it’s definitely a step out of your comfort zone, and I believe that’s where growth takes place.
This prompted me to find out more about the Barre Teacher Training!
It was very empowering to see my progress from not being able to verbalise a few sentences during the first week of training and transforming to a point where I am now able to confidently teach a 55 min class!
My most memorable part of this journey would be the friendships made with like-minded people who share the same passion of Barre. The training covered in-depth understanding of muscle groups to help me understand their functional movement, effective cueing techniques, demo, injury and pre-natal considerations and musicality that set me up for a solid foundation.
Most of the hard work actually comes during the practice teach and observation classes.
I am thankful for the constant feedback from my peers and the Trainers!
Thank you, Leandra, Joelle and all my peers for such an awesome journey!
(just to prove to myself that maybe i could do anything I set my mind to hehe).
From anatomy to effective cueing and sequencing, every aspect covered allowed me to gain more clarity in my practice and teaching classes. As someone who enjoys finding out how way things work, hearing about the thought process behind how each class is put together was probably my biggest takeaway.
There was also a sense of community with my batch mates that helped me push through the intensity of back to back training, a shared experience we still laugh about.
I really do believe barre is for everyone and similarly, I believe this training is for everyone. Whether you have intentions of teaching, regaining confidence in yourself or doing something crazy and unexpected, there’s no harm in trying 😀
I didn’t really expect to learn a lot but I was pleasantly surprised.
I gained new aspects of teaching, such as musicality and how to use music to move and motivate the class
and help with the cueing when words are not enough.
I also love how they emphasised on affirming language in cueing and being inclusive to everyone.
It’s definitely helped me in becoming a more effective and inclusive instructor.
I would recommend this training to aspiring instructors, or even current instructors in other movements.
The training provided an in-depth exploration of every aspect of barre, and it was incredibly transformative. It not only enhanced my understanding of barre’s foundational principles but also taught me the intricacies of effective teaching. One of the most memorable moments of the training was realizing that I could confidently create and structure my own class sequences. That milestone gave me the confidence to think like an instructor, rather than just a practitioner.
I loved the structured approach to the curriculum. It was thoughtfully designed to build our skills step-by-step. The combination of theory, practical sessions, and hands-on experience was incredibly effective. I particularly appreciated the focus on anatomy which helped me understand the movements on a deeper level and refine my ability to cue them properly.
This training has not only deepened my passion for barre but also strengthened my connection to a vibrant, like-minded community, and I’m excited to continue growing and helping others discover the joy and benefits of barre.
A huge thank you to Leandra, Joelle, and all of my fellow trainees! Your support, encouragement, and feedback have been invaluable.
For those considering this journey, my advice is to approach it with an open mind. Remember, true growth happens outside your comfort zone, and it’s through the challenges that you’ll experience your greatest progress.
Understanding how different muscle groups engage during specific barre exercises was insightful. I also learnt how to effectively cue people in a way that is clear, motivating, and accessible for everyone in class. My key takeaway was that even a small adjustment can make a big difference in a student’s experience as it is helping them avoid injury & get the most out of their workout.
Last but not least, I treasure the friendship that was born out of this training with fellow trainees! ☺️
Leandra and Joelle are amazing at sharing all the theory knowledge and also, equipping us with all the practical skills needed to be a great barre instructor!
I will recommend BLTT to anyone who's interested in deepening their understanding in Barre!
I also enjoyed learning about body language and verbal encouragement. It gave me a better understanding on how a barre class can be enhanced by the smallest action from the instructor.
I highly recommend anyone who has a passion for teaching or simply wish to take their barre practice to the next level to join BLTT!
Beyond the technical skills, I learned so much about cueing, musicality, and class structure. And what made this journey even more special were the friendships I formed along the way. If you’re thinking about joining, I highly recommend it. It’s an incredible opportunity to challenge yourself, deepen your love for barre, and grow in ways you never imagined!
I recommend this training to anyone who loves barre. This training makes teaching barre fun and not too technical to teach! Just do it and enjoy the flow!

For someone who signed up for BLTT thinking “let’s just try”, I came out of it feeling pretty empowered!
Empowered with not only the knowledge but also confidence. The amazing team of trainers are more than willing to answer any questions you have. The course structure sets you up for success. It is extremely comprehensive and easily understandable for someone like me who has never done anatomy before.
Through the training, I also gained new like-minded friends! Friends who enjoy barre as much as me. I also found that I have a very different “teacher voice” that comes out when I practice teach 🤭 Jokes aside, I gained a deeper appreciation into what kind of effort goes into not only planning a well rounded full body workout, but also how to cue students to move, how to be aware and ensure students are aligned.
This also ultimately enables students who come to class to leave satisfied. I want to be able to teach such classes as well🤞🏻I would recommend this training to anyone who enjoys barre, or wants to know why certain exercises burn, or wants to teach, or just make friends with people who like barre just as much as you do. Just try!
